I. Development Status of the Discipline
The discipline Architecture originated from the Teaching and Research Office of Landscape Architecture established in 1985 by Zhejiang Forestry College (the predecessor of Zhejiang A & F University). The discipline Architecture was established in 2006, was approved by the Office of the State Council Academic Degrees Committee as the first-level discipline of Architecture in 2010, one of the two master’s degree programs in the first-level discipline of Architecture in Zhejiang Province, and one of the three main disciplines of human settlement discipline groups in Zhejiang A & F University. The discipline now has one undergraduate program in Architecture (five-year system), and two second-level disciplines of architectural design and theory, and building technology science. The discipline has established long-term and stable cooperation relationships with the Department of Environment and Architecture of the University of Kitakyushu, to jointly cultivate doctoral candidates. At present, there are 300 undergraduate students, three doctoral students, and 20 postgraduate students. Each year, 3-4 outstanding postgraduate students are selected and sent to the University of Kitakyushu for a six-month academic visit, 3-4 undergraduates are selected and sent to the University of Kitakyushu for a short academic visit of 1-2 months, and 2-3 outstanding graduate graduates are sent to the University of Kitakyushu for further study and to obtain a master’s degree. The outstanding master graduates may directly study in the discipline and jointly cultivate the doctoral candidates with the University of Kitakyushu, and may pursue a Doctorate of Engineering at the University of Kitakyushu. With respect to the discipline, there are 19 full-time teachers, including one professor, five associate professors, two nationallyregisteredClass 1architects, and 10 teachers with doctoral degrees (including doctoral students). In the last five years, the discipline has undertaken five projects at the ministerial and provincial level or above, with 3 million Yuan worth of research funding, and has more than 80 academic papers published, including more than 30 papers in EI search journals.
II. Major Research Directions and Characteristic Advantages
The discipline is closely associated with the construction engineering motto of “building a beautiful Zhejiang Province and creating a better life” put forward by Zhejiang Provincial Party Committee and the Zhejiang Provincial Government. The research on such aspects as urban (rural) town buildings, landscape architecture, and protection and development of ancient villages with the architectural culture characteristics of Zhejiang Province is conducted to provide theoretical and technical support for the urbanization and beautifying of rural construction in Zhejiang Province; the research on such aspects as building energy-saving technology, building environment and utilization of renewable energy resources is conducted in order to provide theoretical and technical support for building an ecological and economically powerful province; the research on such aspects as regional (neighborhoods and units) energy planning and management, and system design and control is conducted to provide theoretical and technical support for the construction of a smart city in Zhejiang Province and for building city management cloud data platforms. The discipline consists of two second-level disciplines of Architectural Design and Theory and Building Technology Science. The research directions of Architectural Design and Theory include: Design and Theory of Vernacular Architecture in Villages, Towns and Regions, and Architectural History and Culture and Protection of Ancient Villages. The research directions of Building Technology Science include: Building Energy-Saving Technology, and Ground Source Heat Pump and Utilization of Renewable Energy Source.
1. Design and Theory of Vernacular Architecture in Villages, Towns and Regions
For Zhejiang Province and the Yangtze River Delta region, carrying out the design and related theoretical research on rural residential buildings in villages and towns and on the building up of landscape architecture centers on representation of architectural space and spatial form, low-cost suitability construction technology integration and vernacular settlement culture inheritance and other aspects. These aspects are used to create a new rural residential building mode by integrating rural modern life, production activities and ecological concepts to improve the functions of rural residential and environmental quality. Through the “research and development of engineering structural laminated wood” and the typical “four-saving system” (energy-saving, land-saving, water-saving and material-saving) in the landscape architecture engineering practice of closely combining with the environment, theoretical research is conducted on the buildings with landscape marks in tourist attractions, parks, squares and other landscape spaces, a subject on which more than 40 academic papers have been published.
2. Architectural History and Culture and Protection of Ancient Villages
For historical and cultural blocks and ancient villages, research is carried out on historical context and local cultural heritage, which holds the ancient village to be a complete (including nature, society, economy and other factors), dynamic and developmental organic system; it carries out research on the ancient village environment, value system component factors and their interaction, and puts forward scientific and rational methods and measures for the protection of ancient villages, for which four academic papers in the first grade journals—and a monograph—have been published.
3.Building Energy-Saving Technology
Research is done on such aspects as green building systems and green building materials, building energy-saving design and energy-saving reconstruction of existing buildings, and participation in the compilation ofStandard for Energy Saving Design of Public Buildings in Zhejiang Province. Relying on the National Wood Resource Comprehensive Utilization Engineering Technology Research Center of Zhejiang A & F University, the projects “Efficient Utilization of Key Equipment by Wood Processing Residues and Development of Wood-Wool Integrated Materials” and “Research and Development of Engineering Structure Laminated Wood” were carried out, winning eight invention patents and three patents for utility models.
4. Ground Source Heat Pump and Utilization of Renewable Energy Source
Research is conducted on heat transfer theories of ground source heat pumps, on-site geotechnical thermal response tests, system optimization, and operational control and engineering applications, which achieved a series of results. The theory of thermal coupling heat transfer in real geotechnical environments was put forward, and the calculation method of thermal response radius of buried pipe heat exchanger has been proposed. Participation in the preparation of national standardTechnical Regulations for the Utilization of Pile Foundation Geothermal Energy, and construction of a laboratory test platform with ground source heat pump system for buried pipes, obtained a copyright in “design software for geothermal energy utilization”, as well as four patents. More than 20 academic papers have been published, including 10 papers in first grade journals (including EI search), and more than 10 engineering projects have been completed.
III. Research Results
In the last five years, the discipline has undertaken five projects at ministerial and provincial level or above with 3 million Yuan of research funding, and has had more than 80 academic papers published, including more than 30 papers in EI search journals.
IV. Talent Cultivation
In the last five years, the discipline architecture has provided more than 300 architecture graduates to society, who are distributed across all major provinces and cities in China. The occupation types cover fields like architecture design, real estate development, construction management, government administrative department and other industries, making great contributions to the cultivation of talents in the construction industry of China, especially in Zhejiang province. All postgraduates of the first session successfully graduated in spring 2015, opening a chapter of cultivation of talents with a master’s degree in the discipline.
V. Condition Construction
The discipline now has its Architectural Physics Laboratory with a building area of 90 m2, and more than 890,000 Yuan worth of instruments and equipment.
