Training Objectives: This major is designed to cultivate high-quality applied talents who have solid basic theory, knowledge and skills of ecology, who understand the basic knowledge of environmental science, forestry, soil and water conservation and other related disciplines, who can master the application of geographic information systems, remote sensing application and computer-aided mapping and other related application skills, can carry out ecological surveys, ecological planning formulation, ecological engineering design and ecological restoration practice, and who have a solid foundation, strong practical abilities, high comprehensive qualities, a spirit of innovation and have entrepreneurship abilities.
Main Courses: Ecology, Botany, Landscape Ecology, Ecological Environment Monitoring and Ecological Impact Assessment, Ecological Planning, Ecological Engineering Design, Soil and Water Conservation, Restoration Ecology, Nature Reserve Management, Remote Sensing Image Processing, Geographic Information System, Computer-Aided Mapping, etc.
Employment Direction: Graduates may engage in ecology-related administrative management, planning formulation, ecological engineering technology promotion and application, and other work in this field. Employers include the Ecological Office of Environmental Protection Agency at all levels, Water Conservation Office of Water Conservancy Bureau, Ecological Office of Forestry Bureau,Agricultural Bureau, the Development and Reform Bureau, Urban and Rural Planning Bureau,ChinaLand Administration Bureau and various planning, design and research institutes, nature reserves, etc.; graduates may engage in teaching and research work in ecology, environmental protection, resources, planning and other aspects in schools and scientific research departments; or engage in carbon accounting and emission reduction technology, ecological planning, design, construction and consulting and other work in various forestry, agriculture, environmental protection technology promotion centers, ecological engineering technology companies, environmental governance companies, landscaping companies and other enterprises and public institutions; or they may continue their studies in ecology, environmental science, environmental engineering, soil and water conservation, urban and rural planning and other related disciplines.
The major relies on the provincial top priority disciplines Silviculture and Forestry Conservation, the provincial-level key discipline Ecology and other disciplines, and now there is one national Key Laboratory Cultivation Base and three provincial-level innovation platforms.
At present, the university already has two first-level master’s degree programs in Ecology and Forestry related to the major, a second-level master’s degree programs in Silviculture, Forestry Conservation, Soil and Water Conservation and Desertification Prevention, and doctoral degree programs for doctoral talent cultivation programs.
