Cultivation in the field of Forestry relies on the College of Forestry and Biotechnology, and there are six research directions: Silviculture, Forest Conservation, Forest Management, Forestry Ecological Engineering, Urban Forestry, Landscape Plants and Ornamental Horticulture.

Adhering to the key issues of the Regional Forestry System as the research emphasis, led by the provincial first-level top priority discipline Forestry and five key disciplines at ministerial and provincial levels, and supported by three innovative platforms in Bamboo, Economic Forest and Forest Germplasm Resources, one National Key Laboratory Cultivation Base, three key laboratories at ministerial and provincial levels and three provincial-level innovation teams. The college has formed these research directions with distinctive features and obvious advantages in such aspects as characteristic forestry ecological engineering, urban forestry, economic forest (bamboo) cultivation and utilization, breeding of new varieties of characteristic economic tree species, forest pest prevention and control in subtropics, operation and management of forest resources, discovery and cultivation of landscape plant resources, to establish a teacher team consisting of 71 academic backbone teachers, among whom there is one “Distinguished Professor in Zhejiang Province”, 13 “New Century Academic and Technical Leaders in Zhejiang Province”, 25 professors, 46 associate professors, and 60 people with doctoral degrees.

In recent years, with a solid platform for scientific research, the college has launched 496 scientific research projects, including 72 state-level scientific research projects and more than 100 provincial and ministerial-level scientific research projects, with total scientific research funds of over 80 million Yuan; and published 600 academic papers, of which 76 have been collected by three major retrieval systems such as SCI. The article “Functional Mapping –How to Map and Study the Genetic Architecture of Dynamic Complex Traits” published by Professor Wu Rongling inNature Reviews: Geneticsis rated as being in the first batch of the 100 mostinfluential international academic papers in China. The college took charge of projects and won two first prizes and four second prizes of Science and Technology Progress Award, one second prize in the National Teaching Achievement Award and two first prizes at the Provincial Teaching Achievement Award.
