Training Objectives: To cultivate high-quality talents who meet the needs of forestry modernization and international development, develop in a coordinated manner in knowledge, ability and quality, and have a keen awareness of the needs for an ecological civilization and innovation and entrepreneurship abilities. Students should be taught according to their aptitudes and cultivated in categories. Attention should be paid to the cultivation of three types of talents: The first is to carry out elite education, which guides students to conduct research-based study through school-run models such as Chinese-foreign cooperation in education and Liang Xi Innovation Class, to cultivate innovative talents who mainly study abroad and take the postgraduate entrance exam; the second is to closely understand the needs of industry and set up entrepreneurship classes in cooperation with enterprises so as to cultivate entrepreneurial talents who adapt to the social and economic development through the integration of industry, university and research via a “dual-tutor system” and other methods; the third is to cultivate administrative talents in administrative management of forestry and rural management (such as village officials).

Employment Direction: Graduates may engage in administrative management in agriculture, forestry, urban construction, environmental protection, tourism, quarantine, scientific research, education and other relevant government departments, or engage in technical innovation, technical services and other work in silviculture, forest resources planning and management, urban greening and conservation, urban and rural ecological environment construction, seed quality inspection, development and utilization of plant resources, cultivation, processing and utilization of economic forests, construction of improved forest breed bases, pest control and quarantine, and other aspects of industry.
The major is a national characteristic major and a key major in Zhejiang Province, and based on the top priority first-level discipline Forestry, and a key discipline of the State Forestry Administration Genetics and other disciplines. There is a National Teaching Team, a state-level Off-Campus Practical Education Base, a National Key Laboratory Cultivation Base, a National Bilingual Demonstration Course, two provincial-level teaching teams and 10 Innovation Platforms and Experimental Practice Centers at provincial level and above. Once admitted, students may choose the Liang Xi Innovation Class, entrepreneurship classes, and other different modes of cultivation by classification according to their personal interests and personality development .
The university already has postgraduate degree programs related to the major: one doctoral degree program in Bamboo Resources and Efficient Utilization, four first-level master’s degree programs in Forestry, Biology, Ecology and Landscape Gardening, and 15 second-level master’s degree programs in Silviculture, Forestry Conservation, Forest Management, Forest Genetic Breeding, and Landscape Plants, among others.
