Genetics was founded in 1958 and was included in the key disciplines at theministerial and provincial level in2004. There are 18 tutors, including six professors, two distinguished professors of Zhejiang Province (Qianjiang scholars), and six people from the “151” talent project. The discipline is an important component discipline of the National Key Laboratory Cultivation Base for Subtropical Silviculture. The laboratory covers an area of 7,600m2, and has high precision instruments such as a liquid chromatography-mass spectrometer, a gas chromatography-mass spectrometer, a near-infrared spectrometer, a laser confocal system, a gene gun, a sequencing system, a fluorogenic quantitative PCR, a two-dimensional electrophoresis system and a photosynthesis tester, all of which is valued at more than 30 Million Yuan, resulting in domestically advanced experimental conditions. There is a Public Basic Condition Platform for Forest Germplasm Resource Conservation and Utilization in Zhejiang Province, and an Institute of Biotechnology and Natural Drug Research and Development Center. With model plants, crops, medicinal plants, horticultural ornamental plants and forest as the primary research objects, four research directions withdistinctive features and advantages have been formed, namely: plant genetic resources, quantitative and population genetics, plant molecular genetics and ornamental plant genetics. There are two projects for the “973” Program under research, two projects for the “863” Program, 10 projects for the National Natural Science Foundation of China, seven major special projects at the ministerial and provincial level, with scientific research funds totaling 30 million Yuan. Three awards have been won at the ministerial and provincial level, and in the last three years, more than 100 papers have been published, many of which were collected by SCI and EI.
