Animal Husbandry discipline
Length of schooling: 4 years Degrees conferred: Bachelor of Science in Agriculture
Animal Husbandry is one of the most important research fields of Life Science, and its research focuses on the genetic mutation, growth and development, reproduction, digestion and metabolism and other basic rules of life of higher economic animals, and its basic task is to produce high quality animal products for human beings efficiently, and to meet people's (multiple) increasing needs for living standards. With the progress of science, the research field of modern animal husbandry has extended to the feeding, breeding, reproduction, processing and other fields of aquatic animals, exotics, companion animals and ornamental animals from traditional animal husbandry, and moved into the molecular level from the overall level of the animal, such as the cellular and subcellular level in the depth of research, so that we can understand the rules of animal genetics, development, reproduction and metabolism at the genetic level. An example of this, such as the cloning of a variety of animals, shows that Animal Husbandry is one of the most challenging and promising fields in Life Science in the 21stcentury.
This major aims to train senior science technicians with the basic theories, knowledge and skills of Animal Husbandry, who can be engaged in its business and management aspects, who understand the teaching methods and scientific research, the technology and design, the development and promotion, and other work in the related fields and departments of animal husbandry. According to the needs of the regional economic development—and animal husbandry and aquaculture development for high-quality talents—the major focuses on strengthening students' experimental and practical teaching links, emphasizing the cultivation of the students’ professional skills and abilities, and improving the operational ability, practical ability and scientific research ability of the students; it simultaneously aims to strengthen the basic theory teaching in order to give students stronger competitive employment power and adaptive capacity.
Main courses: Animal Anatomy Histology, Animal Physiology, Animal Biochemistry, Animal Husbandry Microbiology, Animal Genetics, Animal Nutrition, Feed Science, Feed Analysis Technology, Animal Reproduction, Animal Environmental Hygiene and Farm Design, Animal Breeding, Cytogenetics, Molecular Genetics, Compound Feed Processing Technology, Enterprise Management, etc.
Employment direction: graduates are competent in the scientific research, teaching, production, management and administrative management and other work in modern animal husbandry, feed industry, animal epidemic prevention, animal import and export quarantine, animal products processing and trade, management of nature reserves, new rural construction and environmental protection and other enterprises and institutions. They also can be self-employed, and engaged in the production and management of livestock and poultry, companion animals, feed and veterinary medicine production and management, etc.
Further education: The College has two science master’s programs in wildlife protection and utilization and zoology, and a master’s program of aquaculture; about 20 postgraduate students are cultivated each year.
Additional information: The Animal Nutrition and Feed Science is a provincial key discipline.
