Length of Schooling: Four Years Degree Conferred: Bachelor of Science

Training Objectives: The major is designed to cultivate high-quality talents who have basic knowledge on modern life sciences, master the systematic basic theory and core skills of biotechnology, understand the development status and trend of biotechnology, and have a solid foundation, strong practical abilities, high comprehensive quality, spirit of innovation and entrepreneurship abilities.

Main Courses: Botany, Microbiology, Genetics, Molecular Biology, Principles of Cell Engineering, Plant Tissue Culture, Genetic Engineering, Fermentation Engineering, Separation and Application of Natural Products, etc.

Employment Direction: Graduates mainly engage in the research and application of modern biological high and new technology, development and research of biological products, improvement of new varieties of plants, breeding and rapid propagation and other work, and may engage in scientific research or teaching in scientific research institutions or schools. They may engage in biotechnology-related applied research, technology development, production management, administrative management and other work in public institutions, enterprises, administrative departments and other departments in fields such as medicine, food, agriculture and forestry, environmental protection or other industries.

The major is the provincial-level key construction major, relies on the provincial top propriety disciplines forest genetic breeding and silviculture, is the key discipline of the State Forestry Administration genetics and other disciplines, and has one national key laboratory cultivation base and five provincial-level innovation platforms. There is a doctoral degree program in bamboo resources and efficient utilization, a first-level master’s degree program in biology, and second-level master’s degree programs in forest genetic breeding, genetics, biotechnology and molecular biology, silviculture, forestry conservation, etc.
