Veterinary Medicine Discipline

Length of schooling: 4 years Degrees conferred: Bachelor of Science in Agriculture

Veterinary Medicine is one of the important research fields in Life Science, and its research focuses on the occurrence and development rules, diagnosis, prevention and treatment of diseases of domesticated animals, pets and various “economic” animals, as well as animal inspection and quarantine, to provide theoretical and technical support for the healthy breeding of animals.

This major aims to cultivate compound talents who understand the basic theories, knowledge and skills of basic veterinary medicine, preventive medicine and clinical veterinary medicine, and can be engaged in veterinary medicine, inspection and quarantine, teaching and scientific research work in the veterinary business department, animal production units or related departments.

Training characteristics: The students of this major mainly learn basic theories and knowledge of basic veterinary medicine, preventive veterinary medicine and clinical veterinary medicine; carry out the basic training of normal and abnormal structure and function experiment, inspection, disease prevention, diagnosis, treatment technology of animal bodies; and master the basic abilities of animal health, clinical diagnosis and treatment, animal quarantine and prevention and management of veterinary hygiene.

Main courses: Animal Anatomy, Animal Tissue Embryology, Animal Physiology, Basic Biochemistry, Veterinary Pathophysiology, Veterinary Pharmacology, Veterinary Microbiology, Veterinary Immunology, Veterinary Clinical Diagnostics, Veterinary Internal Medicine, Veterinary Surgery, Animal Infectious Diseases, Veterinary Parasitology, Veterinary Obstetrics, Traditional Chinese Veterinary Science, etc.

Employment direction: Graduates can be competent in scientific research, teaching, veterinary medicine, biological products and veterinary drug development, management and administrative management and other work in modern pet hospitals, large farms, animal epidemic prevention station, animal import and export quarantine, animal product processing and trade, wildlife park, enterprises and institutions, or institutions of higher learning and scientific research institutions. They also can be self-employed and engaged in the diagnosis and treatment of livestock and poultry, companion animals and wild animals, among other lines of work.

Further education: The College has two science master programs in Wildlife Protection and Utilization and Zoology, and the master program of Veterinary Medicine, and about 20 postgraduate students are cultivated each year.

Additional information: All the teachers of this discipline have doctoral degrees. Six of them are returned overseas Chinese scholars, and one is doctoral supervisor.
