Jiyang College of Zhejiang A&F University, formerly known as the Tianmu College of Zhejiang Forestry University, was founded by Zhejiang Forestry University (predecessor of Zhejiang A&F University) in 2000 and approved by the Zhejiang Provincial Government as an independent full-time college. The status was reconfirmed by the Ministry of Education in 2004. In 2011, Zhejiang A&F University cooperated with the Zhuji Municipal People's Government of Zhejiang Province in joint establishment and cooperated with Zhejiang Zhuji Education Development Investment Co., Ltd. in joint program. In September 2013, the College was moved from Lin'an, Zhejiang to Zhuji.
Located in the middle north region of Zhejiang Province, Zhuji borders Hangzhou on the north, Shaoxing on the east and Yiwu on the south with convenient transportation and obvious geographical advantages. Zhuji is a city of civilization with a long history, a city of culture with numerous talents, a city of magnificence with beautiful mountains and rivers, and a city of vitality with developed economy. In addition, it is awarded the title of the county with nationally advanced educational level and selected as one of the first batch of competent cities in education in Zhejiang Province. With the long-lasting tradition of focusing on education and virtues, and emphasizing livelihood and the way to behave oneself, the city is a perfect site for universities.
The College is located in the Education Park of the North Area in Zhuji, Zhejiang Province, with an area of 542.498 mu. The campus is magnificent and unique with a sense of history, the context, and distinguishing features shown among ordinary buildings. The university buildings cover the construction area of 267,000 square meters, with a total investment of RMB 1.3 billion. Among these buildings, Jiyang Sports Center covers the total construction area of 38,000 square meters, integrating the basketball hall, swimming hall and tennis hall, where international sports events can be held. The library covers the total construction area of 28,000 square meters with the collection of 1.5 million books, among which the number of existing paper books reaches 688,000. The classroom is equipped with advanced multimedia teaching facilities, which can accommodate 16,000 students at one time. The experimental teaching building covers the total building area of 19,000 square meters with the total value of existing teaching facilities reaching RMB 69.7143 million. The experimental computer teaching center is titled as the provincial-level demonstration center of experimental teaching, which is equipped with advanced laboratory facilities. The student apartment that every 4 students share with is equipped with a separate bathroom, an air-source solar water heater, an air conditioner and the broadband network, where there are advanced and complete facilities with the clean and comfortable atmosphere and novel design. Due to the well-developed campus and advanced facilities, students can progress under a sound environment and conditions.
In accordance with the school-running principle of "origin adherence, relative independence and standardized management" of the Ministry of Education, the College implements the dean responsibility system under the leadership of the board of directors. The College consists of 8 functional departments, namely the Office, Organization and Personnel Department, Academic Affairs Department, Science and Technology Department, Social Cooperation Department, Planning and Finance Department, Student Affairs Department (Youth League committee), and Public Safety Department. It is also composed of 6 teaching units, namely Engineering Technology School, Garden Art School, Business School, Humanities School, Biological Environment School, and Sports and Military Training Department, as well as 3 teaching supporting units, namely the Experimental Teaching Center, Library and Sports Center.
The College has a team of highly professional, competent and integral teachers, whose titles match their educational backgrounds. There are 592 teaching staff, among which there are 411 full-time and part-time teachers. The College has 1 academician employed by multiple universities, 2 teachers with the title of famous teachers in Zhejiang colleges, 1 teacher with the title of national outstanding teacher, 1 with the title of the advanced individual in Zhejiang Province, 9 selected in the "151 talents" project in Zhejiang Province, and 2 personnel with the title of outstanding instructors in Zhejiang Province.
According to the needs of economic and social development, the College sets up 32 undergraduate majors, covering 8 major disciplines, namely economics, laws, literature, science, engineering, agriculture, management and arts. Based in Zhejiang Province, the College now enrolls students from 13 provinces (including municipalities and autonomous regions) in China, where there are now 6,103 full-time undergraduates and 479 students in the adult education program. In accordance with the idea of simultaneous construction of academic disciplines and specialties, the College improves the mechanical and electrical equipment, expands the scope of the business and trade service, focuses on the garden art, and refines the development of food environment. Moreover, the agricultural engineering discipline and the landscape architecture discipline are the first-class disciplines (Class B) in Zhejiang Province; the business administration major is the key major of the provincial level; the machinery manufacturing and automation, traditional Chinese medicine and computer science and technology, these three majors are the new provincial-level majors of the 12thFive-Year Plan; gardening and accounting, the two majors are the special provincial-level majors of the 13thFive-Year Plan; the three disciplines, namely mechatronic engineering, ornamental plants and horticulture, and constitutional law and administrative law are the key disciplines of Shaoxing City; and gardening, accounting, mechanical design and automation, these three majors are the college-level brand majors. The College has established the industry-university-research center with an area of 3,900 square meters. In addition, other research institutes settle in the College, such as China Torreya Research Institute, Torreya Engineering and Technology Research Center of State Forestry and Grassland Administration, Eco-environment Development Research Center, and Zhuji Research Institute of Innovation and Development of Zhejiang A&F University. In recent years, the College has possessed 377 scientific research projects, including 7 national-level projects and 49 provincial and ministerial-level projects; and it has published 848 scientific papers and 33 books, and obtained 158 patents and software copyrights with 7 policy recommendations being approved by provincial leaders. In addition, the College ranked 10thamong China's private colleges and universities in terms of the competitiveness of scientific research in 2014.
In accordance with the school-running concept of "seeking truth and putting what is learned into practice", the College implements the personnel training mode of "general education + professional education + personalized education"; implements the credit system enabling students to choose majors, courses and teachers with free will; and implements the flexible schooling system with the length of 3 to 6 years compared with that of 4 years of the basic schooling system. Within the school term stipulated by the College, the graduation certificate and bachelor's degree certificate of Jiyang College of Zhejiang A&F University shall be granted to students who satisfy the requirements of graduation credits and bachelor degree program. The College opens the experimental entrepreneurship class and the characteristic talent cultivation class with the integration of industry and education, thus emphasizing the significance of cultivating students' practical and entrepreneurial abilities. It aims to cultivate application-oriented and entrepreneurial talents with balanced development of knowledge, ability and quality. The College actively carries out activities on international education by cooperating with more than 20 universities in 8 countries on credit recognition and exchange programs, striving to increase the channels of international training for students.
The College spares no effort to carry out the "talent cultivation by the school, family, society and student together, throughout the whole process and from all the aspects", implement community-based management, and focus on the construction of academic atmosphere, thus encouraging students to grow into talents. The College actively implements diversified cultural activities in the campus, which serve as a platform to cultivate and improve students' comprehensive quality. There are state scholarships, Jiyang scholarships for outstanding talents, off-campus scholarships, scholarships for outstanding students, scholarships rewarding personal quality and other scholarships, aiming to motivate students to study hard with a positive mindset. In recent years, students have won 12 international awards (including 2 gold medals in the international contests), 61 national-level awards and 242 provincial and ministerial-level awards in various academic competitions. They have also published 103 scientific papers and applied for 14 patents. Moreover, 199 students have transferred to Zhejiang A&F University through the "talent overpass", and 318 students are admitted to graduate schools with 109 students as civil servants, 96 working in public institutions, 40 as village-level officials, and 137 as entrepreneurs. Through international exchanges and cooperation, over 100 students go abroad for further studies. The College has trained nearly 20,000 graduates with their initial employment rate in the past five years reaching over 93%, thus being well received by all walks of life.
The College and the local Government jointly formulated theOutline of the 13thFive-Year Plan for the School-Government Cooperation between Zhejiang A&F University and Zhuji Municipal People's Government (2016-2020), with the aim of setting the "Five Ones" cooperation program as the carrier, namely the establishment of one alliance, joint establishment of one park, establishment of one college, promotion of one platform and implementation of one project. In this way, the long-term cooperative mechanism can be set up to further integrate the College with Zhuji City, during which the government and the College can jointly establish programs and share resources to achieve win-win results. The College also strives to work on social cooperation and exchanges by implementing the "Five Ones" cultural program, namely one cultural express, one Jiyang red forum, one competent basketball team, one batch of cultural products with regional characteristics, and one set of volunteer service system, thus achieving joint development.
At present, the College is following the development path of "establishing the College with characteristics, developing the College through entrepreneurship, and reinvigorating the College through innovation", intending to be the first-class, entrepreneurship-oriented and well-known Independent college in China by 2020.
