The College of Art Design and College of Humanities and Tea Culture was founded by the original College of Art Design, Chinese Language and Literature, and Journalism and Communication from the original College of Humanities, as well as the original College of Tea Culture in March 2011—it is called the College of Culture for short.
The college now has seven disciplines of design, fine arts, photography, fashion design, Chinese language and literature, journalism and communication and ecological culture (tea culture), covering three major subject categories of art, literature, and law, wherein design is the university-level key discipline, obtaining the master’s degree authorization of the second-level discipline in 2006 and the master’s degree authorization of the first-level discipline in 2011; journalism and communication and ecological culture (tea culture) are key disciplines developed by the university. The college has eight teaching units: Visual Communication Department, Photography Department, Fashion Design Department, Department of Art in Digital Media Art, Department of Chinese Language and Literature, Department of Journalism and Communication, Department of Tea Culture and the Department of Art Foundation Teaching.
There are eight undergraduate programs or major orientations, namely: Art Design (Including Landscape Art Design, Visual Communication Art and Fashion Art Design), Photography, Art in Digital Media, Chinese Language and Literature, Advertising and Management of Cultural Industry (Tea Culture), wherein Advertising is the provincial-level key construction program, Art Design is the university-level key construction program, Management of Cultural Industry (Tea Culture) is the only undergraduate tea culture program in China, and Photography is one of the first batches of construction programs in Zhejiang Province. There are two provincial-level excellent courses and 12 university-level excellent courses. The college recruits students in 25 provinces, municipalities directly under the central government and districts, and now has more than 1,700 undergraduate students and more than 50 postgraduate students. The college has perfect teaching equipment and facilities, and has six scientific research platforms, namely: Zhejiang Eco-cultural Research Center (provincial- and ministerial-level ecological and cultural research base), Zhejiang A & F University Ecological Civilization Research Center, Art and Design Institute, Institute of Fine Arts, Institute of Modeling Language of Paintings in Han Dynasty, Institute of Wu-Yue Culture and Tea Food Institute; one Zhejiang Provincial Art Foundation Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center, including pottery and sculpture laboratories, a model making laboratory, a fine arts copying and appreciation laboratory, a fashion design laboratory, a photography foundation laboratory and a digital media laboratory; as well as an Experimental Teaching Center for Humanities and Tea Culture, including advertising laboratory, Chinese laboratory and tea leaf processing laboratory.
The college now has 109 teaching and administrative staff, including 10 people with senior professional titles, 29 people with vice-senior professional titles and 14 people with doctoral degrees. The college adheres to the “people-oriented education, and moral education first”, and attaches great importance to the talent cultivation quality. It is constantly deepening the teaching reform and boldly exploring new ways of teaching and scientific research using a combination of industry, university and research, establishes long-term fixed art sketching bases and tea culture teaching training bases throughout the county, and pays attention to cultivation of the comprehensive quality and consciousness of innovation and entrepreneurship of students. Efforts were made to organize students to participate in the National Art Works Exhibition for College Students, Advertising Art Competition, Platinum Creative Graphic Design Competition, China Fashion Design New Talents Contest, Photography and Digital Media Art Competition, with participants obtaining good achievements. The college actively explores the talent cultivation system in combination with “moral education”, “psychological education” and “aesthetic education”, and there are a large number of outstanding graduate role models, represented by Liu Ting who is a “National Moral Model”, Zuoli who is “Self-Improvement Star” for national college students, and Cai Ying and Chen Xiang who succeed in self-employment. The college regularly organizes ecological literature forum, humanities forum, Donghu Forum and other activities, foundedEcology Reading, Donghuand other magazines, practice and improve the humanistic quality of students, and guides the campus culture.
Foreign exchanges and cooperation are actively carried out. In recent years, it has invited more than 50 domestic and foreign well-known experts and scholars to the college for academic reports, organized teachers and students to participate in domestic and foreign academic conferences for more than 100 times, and actively carried out credit transfer for exchange students in colleges and universities in the United States, the UK, France, Japan, South Korea and other countries. At present, Confucius Colleges are under construction (overseas cooperation in running schools).Chinese Tea Song, a large-scale stage drama independently created by Dean Wang Xufeng who is a national first-class writer and senior professor of tea culture, has successfully performed in UNESCO Stage and Shanghai World Expo China Element Pavilion; the tea culture creative industry brand “Chinese Tea Song” is rated as the National Outstanding Campus Culture Brand by the Ministry of Education, and received good response from society at large.
